Modern Sunday Service – for all ages

At 11am on Sunday we hold a contemporary service particularly aimed at families and those who are ‘young at heart’.

What to expect

Before the service

We serve coffee, tea, and juice for children, from 10:30am – after the 9:30am traditional service finishes – to give the entire church an opportunity to meet and chat. You are more than welcome to join us.

During the service

Our 11am service lasts between one and one-and-a-quarter hours, generally finishing between 12:00 and 12:15. Music is mainly provided by a band and draws on worship songs written in the last 30 years, although we do enjoy doing our own versions of both older hymns and choruses.

All the words you need (song words and prayers) are displayed on screens around the church, but there’s no pressure to participate.

We also celebrate birthdays; listen to a talk (normally lasting about 10 minutes, during which there is no pressure to laugh at the ‘jokes’!) and, of course, sing and pray together.

Communion

We invite everyone to participate in Communion. If you take the bread and wine in your own church we welcome you to do the same here. Alternatively, you can ask for a blessing – but there’s no pressure to do anything you don’t want to.

We aim to be as inclusive as possible, so offer gluten-free wafers, alcohol-free communion wine, and chocolate buttons for the kids!

Facilities for children

Children are very welcome at our 11am services, but don’t worry if they are a bit noisy – it’s what children do best!

Our Sunday School is held during the service in term-time, lasting about half an hour. So while parents and carers can participate in the main church service, children are entertained and learn about the Christian faith. Children are brought back into church before communion, so families can share together.

All our young children’s group leaders are fully DBS checked, and our Safeguarding Officer is responsible for ensuring our policies keep everyone safe.

Afterwards

If it’s your first time visiting St Peters we would love to meet you and have a chat – feel free to hang around after the service! We would also appreciate you filling in our visitor card to help us find out more about you.
